Thing
is the newest song on the album. It came to Mark, mid-2007, in a scary vision, the product of some early traumatic experiences with the works of H P Lovecraft, and a recent over-indulgence in Terry Pratchett novels.
The Thing is a demon that can possess a human soul, corrupting the noblest motives to the service of pure evil. After being imprisoned for 1000 years in a magic book, it is finally released by an unknowing explorer. The Thing finds that it can still invade the minds of humans and control them, but only if they read words that contain something of the demon. So it sets out on its quest to possess journalists, novelists, playwrights and screenwriters.
The moral is that we should be careful about where our reading matter originates and we shouldn’t always believe everything we read.
Full one thousand years ago, a thing of evil slithered low.
Dark and shady places kept, silent, sneaky, softly stepped,
Sniffing, smelling greed and pride, for a human form to hide.
Vessel captured made its own, out in darkness hunt and roam.
